Didn't try iPhoto, but I would assume that since the Finder and Aperture and Preview rely on the same RAW components from the system iPhoto would be able to handle them. And I'd go with the most recent RAW update, Manually moving back to an earlier version didn't work; I'd try reinstalling the latest and see if that works.
